An elderly couple in love

You Can Heal Your Relationship At Any Age!

The average couple takes six years to seek help. Don't let that be you!

In the last few years, I’ve noticed a shift in the ages of people who seek couples counseling, as well as at what point in the relationship they are seeking help.

While in years past, most of my clients ranged in age from their late 30s to 50s, lately I’ve been seeing many clients in their 60’s and 70’s as well as clients who are younger and quite early into their relationship.

Relationship pioneers John and Julie Gottman found that the average couple gets relationship help six years after a major issue. I applaud these couples—both younger and older than my average clientele—who are coming to me for help before waiting six whole years in a less than optimal relationship.

These days, we are all living through unprecedented existential crises. I’ve especially seen an uptick in couples in their 20s and 30s who married or had children during the pandemic. The stress on their relationship from outside pressures has been immense.

On the other end of the spectrum, I am humbled by the courage of couples in their 60s and 70s looking to improve their relationships. These couples come to me for Intensive Couples Counseling after 30, 40 or 50 years of marriage.

I’ve learned that people of all ages want to be happy, and they want to be happy in their relationships. It has been so rewarding for me to see the revelations people have about themselves and their partners at every age.
