Austin Couples Counseling

Amy Lombardi, LPC, MEd

Reimagine your relationship. Rediscover joy.

Are you feeling alone, disconnected, unheard, or unloved in your relationship?

Do you feel like you’re in a constant state of conflict in your marriage?

Are you feeling disappointed in your relationship, or struggling with intimacy?

Have you tried other couples counselors without success?

You’re not alone, and there’s hope to save your relationship.

Making the decision to reach out to a couples therapist – to admit that your relationship isn’t where you want it to be – takes courage and vulnerability. It’s a choice based in strength, not weakness.

A strong, healthy relationship doesn’t just happen. It’s nurtured, cultivated, and intentionally supported.

Enlisting the support and guidance of a professional couples therapist doesn’t mean your relationship is broken. It means you’re dedicated to rebuilding your connection and pursuing the joy of a vibrant future together.

When it comes down to it, dedication to working on your relationship and marriage is a better predictor of happiness in your relationship than compatibility.

“Amy is a marriage therapist who truly hears each person and provides total empathy without judgment. She helps put the conflict into context for both partners. Thanks to getting marriage counseling with Amy, my relationship is night and day better from where it was before my wife and I started therapy."

Relationships Take Work

Seeking out information to help better your marriage or relationship takes gumption, and I’m honored to be part of this journey with you. I’ll coach you in learning to use evidence-based techniques in your relationship that will help you feel loved, heard, and understood.

I believe that most of us want to be good partners – we want to have strong relationships and do our part well.

Yet, we’re all flawed and all have areas that need improvement. I’ll help you to:

  • Recognize the patterns you’ve been taught.
  • See how those patterns are playing out in your relationship.
  • Address them with honesty, love, and without shame.

RELATIONSHIPS  IMPROVE YOUR WHOLE LIFE!

You’re not to blame for the dysfunctional patterns you’ve learned – we all have them.

The important thing is as an adult you now have an opportunity to learn to do better in your communication and in your relationships.

You don’t have to keep repeating the patterns you learned growing up.

My clients come to me for help repairing their relationship problems and saving their marriages. A bonus is that the skills you learn through working with me in couples counseling will spill into every relationship of your life, including:

  • Parenting
  • Friendships
  • Work relationships
  • Your relationship with yourself

It’s my honor and pleasure to help you embrace accountability, vulnerability, and empathy in your relationship.

Austin Couples Counseling:
My Unique Approach

I’ve helped hundreds of couples navigate the dicey terrain of rebuilding their relationships, including overcoming:

  • Infidelity
  • Constant fighting
  • Lost intimacy
  • Feeling unheard and hurt

After an intensive couples counseling session with me, you’ll take home the most effective tools that therapy has to offer. The techniques I pass on to you are ones I’ve learned directly from some of the best therapists in the world: Esther Perel, John and Julie Gottman, Terry Real, and many others.

I’m confident you’ll see life-changing results from working with me, even if you’ve unsuccessfully seen other therapists in the past.

My unique approach to therapy blends the steady techniques of the Gottman Method with the direct and honest interventions of Relational Life Therapy (RLT). Both the Gottman Method and Relational Life Therapy deliver research-based insights into relationships, giving you actionable tools to work with.  This unique perspective means you can:
  • Gain meaningful insight into the long-standing patterns of your relationship (as well as a path forward) in just one session with me.
  • Learn the tools you need to handle conflict constructively rather than destructively.
  • Build a foundation of friendship as you turn toward your partner.
  • Transform your relationship going forward – into one of intimacy, honesty, and love.

The Gottman Method offers tools proven effective to help with recovery after an affair.

Rebuild Your Relationship

As part of the RLT method, Terry Real talks about three relationship phases I like to use: Harmony, Disharmony, and Repair.

The early stage of a relationship is Harmony, or “love without knowledge.” This is when you’re head over heels in love and don’t yet know all the things that will drive you nuts about the other person. Remember that?

The second stage is Disharmony, or “knowledge without love.” You find out each others’ weaknesses and warts, and you feel disillusioned. Maybe you’re here right now.

The third stage – the one I help you reach – is called Repair, or “knowing love” This is mature love, where you know your partner’s flaws and acknowledge your own.

By learning to change the dance you do with your partner you’re able to deepen your connection, cultivate intimacy, and feel heard.

"I'm not sure there is a way to express our gratitude for the guidance, tools, and wisdom Amy has given us as a couple. Through our struggles, she was able to help us mend ourselves and our relationship. We are now better than ever, thanks to her. Amy's gentle but direct approach gave us the space to challenge each other and ourselves. We feel so thankful we found her when we did."
